Sochi Nomoto is nisei - second generation Japanese and was born in the Bay area. She has lived in Orange County for over 30 years.
Sochi has studied o-cha since she was in college and has been teaching for about 10 years. Sochi is her 'tea name', given when she attained her teaching level.
In 2008, she lost her home in the Yorba Linda Freeway Complex Fire but has since rebuilt her home along with a traditional Japanese tea house where she teaches. Her students range from college students to professionals to retired persons.
Sochi spends part of her time in beautiful Durango, CO where she also teaches and performs public demonstrations.
